freeFall at the Movies: LADYHAWKE

Ladyhawke is a 1985 medieval fantasy film directed and produced by Richard Donner and starring Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer. The story is about a young thief who becomes unwillingly involved with a warrior and his lady who are hunted by the Bishop of Aquila. As he learns about the couple’s past and secret, he chooses to help them overcome the Bishop’s forces, and to lift an infernal curse.

La Lucha Plays the 80s

featuring John C. O’Leary, Alejandro Arenas, Mark Feinman, Guianna

The award-winning jazz trio La Lucha is joined by the fantabulous singer Guianna for an evening of re-imagined songs from the 1980s. This creative program features inventive, jazz influenced arrangements of music by George Michael, Prince, Madonna, and Culture Club. Fan favorites include; Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer,” Joe Jackson’s, ” Steppin’ Out,” & the decade’s defining hit, “Careless Whisper.”

Complete with fun outfits and synthesizers, La Lucha seamlessly blends signature sounds of the 80s with traditional improvisational elements of jazz, including a wide variety of grooves like NOLA second-line, samba, swing and much more. This live concert will have audiences singing along, dancing in their seats, and nostalgic for that totally radical decade.

Fable

Who has the right to tell your story? Fable explores the nature of memory through the eyes of two very different show business siblings. When one sister wants her version of events made legendary on the Broadway stage, the other is pulled into a tug-of-war over the truth of things long past. A fable about the making of a Broadway fable – the hit musical Gypsy. Sisters June Havoc and Gypsy Rose Lee’s loyalty to each other is tested in a mounting battle between fiction and truth.

freeFall at the Movies: GYPSY (1962)

Widely considered, top to bottom, one of the finest musicals in Broadway history, Gypsy received a lavish film adaptation in 1962 starring Hollywood icons Rosalind Russell  and Natalie Wood. Gypsy Rose Lee was the world’s most famous striptease artist; Momma Rose the ultimate stage mother. Follow their extraordinary story as it unfolds on freeFall’s silver screen on August 14. This Tandem Series film screening is the perfect companion piece to Doug Devita’s Fable (playing at freeFall August 9 through September 8).

Internationally-acclaimed guitarist, singer and comedian Chase Padgett presents his thrilling one-man show, 6 Guitars, which follows the stories of six different players, each specializing in a distinct musical genre. As Chase seamlessly switches between each character, he showcases his virtuosic talents for blues, jazz, rock, classical, folk and country, while delving into the unique characteristics and histories of each.

The show premiered at the Orlando International Fringe Theater Festival in 2010, where it enjoyed a sold-out run and several holdover performances. It has since toured all over North America and Europe.
